HALTI IS CLOTHING THE EVEREST-EXPEDITION
The Airborne Ranger Club of Finland expedition is climbing on the world's highest mountain using Halti equipment
Halti clothes and equips the 11 people expedition of the Airborne Ranger Club of Finland whose goal is to climb on the very summit of Mount Everest in 8 848 metres. When succeeding the expedition is the first Finnish group which climbs on the peak of the world's highest mountain. With this action the expedition wants to highlight the Finnish guts: with careful preparing, acknowledging the needed information and strong will one can achieve the highest goals. The expedition is supposed to climb on the Mount Everest in April - May 2008. The expedition is not discouraged by China closing the mountainside, nevertheless they will start heading towards Nepal in 23.3.2008. First Finnish group to the summit of Mount Everest
The goal of the 11 people Everest-expedition of the Airborne Ranger Club of Finland is to climb on the summit of the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest. The expedition's goal is to be the first Finnish group to conquer the summit of Mount Everest. Veikka Gustafsson, Ari Piela and Antti Mankinen are the Finns who have climbed on the mountain earlier. Halti is the main clothing and equipment supplier of the Everest-expedition. Halti's hiking clothes are developed in cooperation with explorer Patrik Degerman. - Extreme conditions require top quality clothes and equipment. In addition to Halti's clothes we will also use their backpacks, sleeping bags and tents, says Antti Inkinen who is responsible for the equipment of the Everest-expedition. Halti has added the Everest-expedition in its Grade VII Team. Halti is taking advantage of the experience of Grade VII Team's top athletes when doing research and development. China closing the north mountainside has hindered the plans
China's surprise decision to close the north mountainside of Mount Everest until 10.5.2008 has hindered the plans of the Everest-expedition. The expedition is supposed to climb to the mountain in April - May 2008. To change the climbing time to summer or autumn is not possible due to weather conditions. To change the climbing route to the south-west side would increase the expenses with tens of thousands of Euros. There is also a chance that the south-west side will be closed for mountain climbers. Everest-expedition is not discouraged by the setbacks
The Everest-expedition has been planning already for years to climb to Mount Everest and they have decided to start the journey as planned. The expedition starts heading towards Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, on Easter Sunday 23.3.2008. - If we can not climb to Mount Everest this year, we will do it next spring. The expedition is waiting to get more information on the situation in any day now. The cooperation with Halti will still continue, tells Tomi Myllys the leader of the expedition. Mount Everest
● Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain.
● The altitude is 8 848 m including the ice cap.
● Mount Everest situates in the Himalaya mountain chain in Asia, between the Indian peninsula and the highland of Tibet.
● The first conquering attempts were made in the end of 19th century.
● British climbing group was the first who reached the peak in 1953.
● The first Finn who reached the peak was Veikka Gustafsson in the year 1993.
● Finnish group has never climbed on the summit of Mount Everest.
